Kashmir Great Lakes Trek Itinerary
Day 01: On arrival to Srinagar you will have to reach the Houseboat on your own. On check in you will be provided a warm cup of traditional Kehwa & crisp Sheermal / Kulcha bakery. Meet other trekker of the group and interact with them, in the evening you will be briefed about the upcoming trek and its route. Hit the bed after early dinner as we will be starting early the next day.
Day 02: Wake up at 5 Am, pack up and get ready for the day. After breakfast we will proceed towards “Shutkaer Kadal”, it is a bridge over sind which we cross to reach the picturesque valley of Sonamarg (2hrs Drive). It is the starting point of ‘Kashmir Great Lakes Trek’ and we will be following a stream till ‘Nichnai’ which is one of the tributaries of Sind River. We will be trekking from Shutkaer Kadal to Nichnai via Shoekdaer, it will take us 3-4 hrs to reach Soekdaer and furthermore 3 hrs to Nichnai. On arrival we will be welcomed by our advance team, hot lunch will be served, after lunch take rest. After evening tea we will light up a bonfire till dinner, you can share your experiences with the fellow trekkers or sing songs or any other activity you would love to do.
Day 03: After breakfast we will proceed towards Vishansar Lake, we will be ascending to Nichnai Pass, known as Nichnai Baer in Kashmiri. The ascend will be steep and we will have to cross a glacier to go to the other side to start the climb Nichnai Pass which will take us 3 – 4 hrs to cross. After Nichnai Pass we will have start descend towards Vishansar, for approx. 30 mins we will be walking through rocky track and then the valley will open up and we will have a big meadow on our left and a river flowing through it. We will take a lunch break there and rest for a while and then continue our walk toward Vishansar lake (Approx 3 hrs). On arrival we will be welcomed by our advance team, tea and snacks will be served. Evening free for personal activities.
Day 04: This day we will be visiting Kishansar lake, it is 30 mins easy walk from Vishansar Lake. Rest of the day is free for personal activities, you can catch fresh water trout or visit the nomads living there and interact with them. In the morning an early riser can witness the beautiful sunrise and see how the shepherds will start to take out this flock for grazing. If you are an avid angler, be assured to catch a bag full of trout and share it with your colleagues. In the evening you can sight the sheep walking in a que together, immaculately the flock returns back to respective pens surrounded by the shepherd dogs. In the evening we will all sit around the Bonfire and enjoy the fresh water trout and dinner.
Day 05: After early breakfast we will start trekking to ‘Gadsar Lake’ today. We will be climbing ‘Gadsar Pass’ the highest point in the trek, which is approximately 2 hours trek to the top. From Gadasr Pass you will see one of the beautiful panoramic scenes of both Vishansar lake and Kishansar lake, we will take a small break there to take photographs. After crossing Gadsar Pass we will start to descend towards Gadsar Lake, the descend is gradual and it will open up to a narrow valley with lot of different wild flowers. Here we will be stopping for lunch. After enjoying our light meals we will resume our trek, after around 4 hrs we will be at the beautiful Gadsar Lake with crystal clear water. On arrival we will be provided tea & snacks, we will be camping over night near Gadsar lake.
Day 06: Today we will be trekking towards Satsar lakes, Satsar is a combination of two words Sat meaning Seven and Sar meaning Mountian Lakes, as the name suggests it is a combination of 7 Lakes, which are connected by small streams. We will be descending from Gadsar and then ascend towards Mengandob, on the right side of Mengandob lies the beautiful Gurez Valley. We will be camping overnight near the Satsar lake or at Mengandob.
Day 07: We are now nearing to the end of our “ Kashmir Great Lakes Trek Expedition”, we will be trekking today towards the twin lakes Nundkol and Gangbal. Both the lakes are full of fresh water trout, nestling in the lap of the magnificent Mout Harmukh. Today’s trek replicates our full trek, we will be descending and then hoping on big boulders and start to ascend. Finally after a trek of 4-5 hours you reach a point where the trek will open to a valley and you can see the beautiful twin lakes in lap of Mout Harmukh, this beautiful glimpse of heaven will take away your breath. After taking a little rest we will continue to descend toward Gangbal, where we will be camping overnight.
Day 08: After a good sleep, wake up and take a walk along side the beautiful Lake. Breakfast will be ready at around 9 Am and enjoy it under the open sky in the company of the splendid Mount Harmuk and the deep blue Gnagbal Lake. This day is free for personal activities, you can visit the nomad and interact with them or take a walk to Nunkol or try your luck in angling. After lunch we will start our descend toward Naranag which will take us 2 – 3 Hrs. After reaching Naranag, we will enjoy an evening brunch to mark the successful completion of “Kashmir Great Lakes Trek” and proceed to Srinagar which is 1.5 hrs journey. Overnight stay will be provided in Houseboats. You can check out till 12 Noon next day.
Day 09: After check out you will be provided complimentary Airport transfer.
