Kashmir has a number of places that are perfect for skiing. There is Sonamarg, Pahalgam and Gulmarg. All of them are excellent for skiing and each is unique in its own way

Gulmarg

Gulmarg, located in the northern part of Kashmir, is one of the most popular snow sports destinations in the world. It is home to the world’s second-highest cable car and one of the largest ski resorts in India. It offers a wide range of winter sports activities, and has a range of accommodations and transport options.

If you are planning to visit Kashmir, you should definitely consider taking a trip to Gulmarg. The scenery here is spectacular and it is often covered in thick snow during the winter season. If you are interested in visiting Gulmarg during the winter season for snow, you should consider visiting the area in December to March.

Sonamarg

Sonamarg is one of the best places to visit in Kashmir. The place is known for its beautiful glaciers and mountain passes. There are several Himalayan treks that begin in Sonamarg. The town is located on the Srinagar – Ladakh highway. In winter, Sonamarg experiences sub-zero temperatures and heavy snowfall. You can reach the valley of Sonamarg from Srinagar in about two hours, passing through beautiful villages and landscape. The Ladakh highway is closed on the onset of winter due to heavy snowfall and is reopened in March. Sonmarg was inaccessible during winters but due to the opening of Z Mohr tunnel it is accessible through out the year now. Sonmarg receives a good amount of snow in winters which is a delight to see and surreal to experience it firsthand.
